Congratulations, class of 2016. All of your hard work has paid off, and you are finally a high school graduate. As the father of a 2016 graduate myself, I know how proud your families and friends are of you. With all the celebrations, it’s important to remember to thank the people in your life that helped you get to this point. With graduation and high school now behind you, you have one important decision to make: What’s next?
Some will decide to further their education by attending a college, university or vocational school. Transitioning to higher education can be tough, but there are many resources that can help you make this adjustment. On our website, www.IndianaHouseRepublicans.com, you can find a guide for Indiana Higher Education which has tools to help you navigate your post-high school life.
For additional tools and resources, I encourage you to visit www.LearnMoreIndiana.org. This website is designed to help you decide and plan potential career paths, research schools and determine the best way to pay for college or vocational school. Additionally, Learn More Indiana offers résumé and interview tips, internship opportunities and much more.
You will find that some of your classmates, or even you, may decide to go directly into the workforce, starting a career. This is an equally difficult time, navigating through the many career options available in Indiana. To make the transition from student to young professional, check out www.IndianaCAREERconnect.com. There you can learn about your career opportunities, create a résumé and research the job market. Employers also use this website to post job opportunities and labor market information.
Additionally, on the Indiana Department of Workforce Development’s website, you can find information on their WorkOne Centers. This program is one way Indiana can provide you with resources when entering the job field and connect you to employers. There are locations across the state. Find a center near you by visiting www.in.gov/dwd/WorkOne.
Finally, you may choose to make the courageous decision to serve our country by enlisting in the military. I am proud to say my son has decided to join the U.S. Army. If this is the path you choose to take, I commend you. You can learn about what the U.S. military has to offer by visiting todaysmilitary.com. With five active-duty branches and their respective guard and reserve components, there are a variety of ways to serve our country.
Whichever path you choose, I know that the members of the class of 2016 will be successful in all that they do. If there is anything I can do to help you in your post-graduate career, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at 317-232-9509 or email@example.com.
