In their Sectional 39 quarterfinal contest on Tuesday evening, the Madison-Grant Argylls were unable to contain Luke Brown and the host Blackford Bruins, as their season came to an end with an 82-69 loss.
For 29 minutes, the Argylls played sound basketball and at time outplayed the Bruins, but at the end of the second quarter and the beginning of the third quarter, the Bruins were able to pull away.
Trailing by only a few possessions near the end of the second half, several key miscues by the Argylls allowed the Bruins to go on a 12-0 run to increase their advantage to 13 points at halftime.
And early in the third, back-to-back threes from the Bruins put them up by 21 points.
Madison-Grant was able to cut the lead down to six, but they ran out of gas late and were unable to inch any closer.
For the season, Madison-Grant finished with a 12-11 record.
“I’m really pleased,” Madison-Grant Head Coach Brian Trout said. “I felt like we competed for the most part. Overall, I’m very pleased.”
Grant Brown led the Argylls with 18 points, while Lance Wilson collected 13. Kaden Howell and Seth Lugar each finished with 11.
