In their final tune-up before the playoffs, the Madison-Grant ended the regular season on a high note, defeating the Taylor Titans by a score of 86-68 on Thursday evening in Kokomo.
Behind a strong night shooting the basketball, Madison-Grant led from the onset, taking a one-point lead after one quarter of play and a five-point advantage at halftime.
“We shot the ball well. We had pretty good ball movement and shot the ball well,” Madison-Grant Head Coach Brian Trout said. “We shot 46 percent from three and 56 percent from the floor overall. We were taking high percentage shots and getting those [to fall.]”
The Argylls did not take their foot off the gas pedal in the second half, continuing to build their lead. Taylor was able to trim their deficit to single digits late in the third, but Madison-Grant quickly rebounded to pull away for the win.
“We came out in the second half and opened it right back up,” Trout said. “We had it at 18 with about a minute to go [in the third,] and they hit three threes on us in the last minute. But then we came back out in the fourth, opened it back up, and pretty much held it at 18 or so the whole fourth quarter.”
Grant Brown led the way with 23 points, seven rebounds, and 11 assists, while Kaden Howell scored 20. Justin Moore also finished in double figures, collecting 17 points.
With the regular season in the books, Madison-Grant will open Sectional 39 play against Blackford.
“Our focus over the next three practices [is] going to be on the defensive [end of the floor,]” Trout said.
“We need to work on how we are going to defend [Blackford] and what we can do defensively.”
