After a tightly contested first half, the Taylor Trojans took control of their contest with Huntington on Wednesday evening, outscoring the Foresters 22-5 in the third quarter en route to a 68-59 triumph. It marked Taylor’s fourth win over a ranked squad or a team receiving votes this season.
Taylor fell behind early, but their bench helped to bail them out in the opening stanza, as Sydney Huffman and Merideth Deckard knocked down crucial threes at critical times to keep the game close.
The two teams played to a 37-37 tie at the halftime break, but the Trojans’ defense came alive in the third quarter, holding the Foresters scoreless over the first six minutes of action. With the Huntington offense stymied, the Trojans embarked on a 16-0 run, led by Becca Buchs’ eight points, to assume full control.
Taylor’s lead never fell below seven points the rest of the way, as they secured their second conference victory.
Abby and Becca Buchs each finished with 17 points and five rebounds, while Kendall Bradbury collected her sixth double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 boards.
