Doubles-doubles by Erika Foy, Alaina Webb carry Indians to victory

The Omega Tandy era got off to a great start on Saturday afternoon, as double-doubles from Erika Foy and Alaina Webb and unselfish play throughout in a 75-54 victory over the Taylor Titans.

The Indians finished with 18 assists in the win, as Mississinewa spread the ball around the floor with excellent precision.

“Well, honestly, I just really loved how all of our players shared the basketball,” Tandy said after the season opening win. “We had 10 of our 11 players score, and everybody was so unselfish. I just think we had so much fun. The girls were enjoying the game, and they kind of proved to themselves that ‘we can do this, and we can play our style and be successful with it.’”

Foy, who finished with a game-high 28 points and 11 rebounds, shot 69.0 percent from the floor, while Webb, who finished with 10 point and 11 rebounds, shot 50.0 percent. As a team, the Indians shot 49.0 percent from the floor, and that was due in large part to the high percentage shots they took throughout the contest.

“We focus a lot in practice on taking high percentage shots,” Tandy said. “In the system we run, we [look for] high percentage shots that the girls are all comfortable taking. We [certainly] got that today.”

Despite the big win, the Indians committed 18 turnover against the Titans, and that is something that Tandy wants to see be cleaned up heading into their home opener against Wabash on Friday.

“Turnovers are our biggest nemesis right now,” Tandy said. “We had 18 against Taylor, [and we] are trying to keep that number around 12 or below. We advance the ball a lot, and when we do that, we turn the ball over, so we just need to get more comfortable in our system. Those are all correctable things that we can work on.”
