In the final cross country race of the 2018 season, Oak Hill junior Mollie Gamble and Mississinewa senior Brennan Butche each put forth incredible efforts on Saturday afternoon in the IHSAA Boys and Girls Cross Country State Finals in Terre Haute.
Gamble, Oak Hill’s top female runner all season long, finished in the top 25, coming in 19th with a time 18:53.2, her best finish in the state meet. Greencastle’s Emma Wilson, last year’s state champion, won her second title in a row with a time of 17:53.9.
In the final race of his high school career, Butche saved his best performance for last. Running at the front of the pack from start to finish, Butche placed third with a time of 15:42.7, earning a state medal and being named an Indiana All Star. Cole Hocker of Indianapolis Cathedral was the boys individual champion with a time of 15:25.1.
Butche is one of the top male runners Grant County has ever had, capping off his brilliant Mississinewa tenure with three state final appearances and three top-15 finishes.
