Behind six goals from junior Grant Gerig, the Taylor Trojans recorded their first win of the young season, defeating Mount Vernon Nazarene by a score of 9-3.
Gerig scored the first two goals of the contest, before assisting on a Nathan Sahly tally to give TU a 3-0 cushion. With a 4-0 advantage at halftime, Gerig scored four more goals in the second half, helping the Trojans to secure the victory.
Taylor outshot the Cougars by a 63-19 margin, while scooping up 56 ground balls compared to Mount Vernon’s 26. The Trojans also went 21-of-22 on clears and 10-of-16 faceoffs.
Gerig collected an assist to go along with his six goals, while Nathaniel Phinney added two goals. Sahly posted 13 ground balls and six caused turnovers, while goalie Kyle Mongoven allowed just three goals while making eight saves.
