After six straight losses to begin the 2019 campaign, the Marion Giants picked up their first and second victories of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Fort Wayne South Side 24-9 and 12-2 in a two-game series.
The Giants’ offense was dominant in the opener, scoring at least four runs in every inning. Marion led 6-0 after the first inning, and added six more runs in the second, eight in the third, and four in the fourth.
Paige Asher, Deasia Jones, Ky Adkins, Aliya Willhide, and Larielle Cox each recorded three hits in the rout, while Adkins and Azira Fisher each drove in four runs. Jones and Asher recorded three RBI, while Willhide, Alayjha Jordan, Kasey Clark, and Lindsay Brumley each drove in one.
The Giants won the second game by mercy rule as well, scoring double-digit runs for the second straight contest while allowing just two runs – their fewest allowed in a game so far this season.
