Despite trailing most of the contest, the Marion Giants found a way to win in the fourth quarter, taking the lead with under three minutes to go and holding from there in a 63-60 triumph over Fort Wayne Northrop.
With the win, the Giants improved to 8-8 overall.
“I thought that we could come out and up-tempo the ball game early, but they actually executed well against our pressure,” Marion Head Coach James Blackmon said. “So we got behind. But our kids did a good job of keeping their composure and making the adjustments.
“We made plays in the last two minutes of the third quarter to switch momentum. We got back-to-back threes, and we turned them over, so we took a 13-point lead and made it a six point lead heading into the fourth quarter. We put ourselves back in a situation to win it.”
JK Thomas led the way with 25 points, while Matthew Goolsby finished with 14 and Rasheed Jones collected nine.
Marion returns to action this coming Thursday against Muncie Central.
“We just have to continue to believe in ourselves and have confidence in our teammates,” Blackmon said. “Next week is going to a very important week going forward.”
