Playing against county rival Eastbrook on Thursday evening, the Marion Giants recorded their seventh victory of the season, sweeping the Panthers in straight sets (25-18, 25-18, 25-18).
Miranda Riggs and Kirsten Lockwood led the Giants’ offense with nine kills, while Ra’Shaya Kyle collected eight. Kyle led the defense with 19 digs, while Lucia Persinger collected 33 assists.
“The things we’ve been working on got better,” Marion Head Coach Larry Hinshaw said. “We still need some fine tuning, but we had some good serve-receive, our defense was pretty good, [and] they worked hard. It was a fun night, and a good way to end the season.”
While Eastbrook kept it competitive for most of the match, multiple errors and miscues proved to be the difference.
“We made so many errors,” Eastbrook Head Coach Bailie Havens said. “We had 30 hitting errors, 35 or 40 defensive errors. We were not ready. We did not come out on top.”
Ava Walters finished with seven kills, 23 assists, and 15 digs, while Lexi Binkerd led the Eastbrook offense with nine kills.
