Since losing their second game of the season to conference foe Harrison, the Marion Giants have been on a bit of a roll, and that continued on Saturday afternoon.
Behind another stellar defensive effort and a pair of great performances from Ra’Shaya Kyle and Ellie Vermilion, the Giants picked up their sixth win in a row, defeating the Indianapolis Arsenal Tech Titans by a score of 76-48.
With the victory, Marion improved to 2-1 in conference play.
The Giants took a 22-8 lead after the first quarter, before increasing that lead to 36-17 at halftime.
Marion’s full court diamond press gave the Titans fits, not allowing them to find any kind of offensive rhythm.
“Today, we were clicking on all cylinders,” Marion Head Coach Lawrence Jordan. “The defense was really good in the first half, and overall, the defensive effort was strong throughout the whole game.”
After halftime, the Giants outscored the Titans 26-7 to really put the contest out of reach.
Kyle finished with 27 points and 16 rebounds, while Vermilion collected 24 points. With her 27 points, Kyle moved into third place on Marion’s all-time scoring list with 1,327 points, trailing only Trena Keys (1,433) and Gina Johnson (1,481).
“Ellie and Ra’Shaya did what they were supposed to do,” Jordan said. “They played like two seniors. We took care of a team we were supposed to beat.”
