The Marion Giants’ perfect record in conference play continued on Saturday afternoon, as they put together a complete performance in a 4-1 win over arch-rival Kokomo.
“We got a good win against a team who has been a big rival of ours the last several years,” Marion Head Coach Jorge Berry said. “We lost a tough one at our place [last year] – one we should have won – but today we took care of business and we did some pretty good things. It was well deserved.”
JD Fagan opened the scoring off a great feed from Kasai Balderas, but the Wildkats were able to find the equalizer, making it a 1-1 contest at halftime.
But the Giants kept on pushing, and it resulted in three straight goals.
“We didn’t quit,” Berry said. “We kept with what we were doing, and we were able to re-establish what we wanted to do. They were quality goals in the second half.”
Alex Powell scored Marion’s second goal off a feed from Mario Garcia, and later, Kevin Guy headed a Joseph Powell corner kick into the net to make it 3-1. Isak Lagerkvist added a little insurance late, scoring on a penalty kick.
