Against their longtime rival on Thursday night, the Marion Giants, behind a strong fourth quarter, came away with their third straight triumph, defeating the Muncie Central Bearcats by a score of 73-66.
The two teams were neck-and-neck throughout, with neither leading by more than three points. The game was tied 15-15 after the first quarter before the Bearcats took a slight 33-32 advantage at halftime.
Muncie Central controlled the third quarter, building an eight-point lead, but the Giants stormed back, taking a 51-50 lead into the final frame.
Marion increased their advantage to 62-55 with 2:26 remaining, but the Bearcats were able to tie the game at 63-63 in the final minute.
With 36.6 seconds left, Francesco Boniciolli hit the game-winning three from the corner, and the Giants held on to secure the eventual four-point triumph.
JK Thomas finished the contest with 24 points to lead the Giants, while Rasheed Jones collected 19 and Boniciolli added 12.
