After falling behind two sets to one, the Oak Hill Golden Eagles came roaring back, winning the final two sets and defeating the Eastern Comets in a thriller (25-17, 8-25, 22-25, 25-23, 15-6).
They got blown out in the second set, and dropped a close third set, but their mental fortitude, combined with their senior leadership, helped the Golden Eagles prevail.
“They would not have done that a year ago,” Oak Hill Head Coach Kristi Carmichael said. “The mental toughness was there. Yes, we had that slack, and that is something that we have to shore up…but my girls [did not] quit. I’m super proud of them.”
Taylor Westgate and Ella Ridgeway led the charge once again. Westgate, after compiling 17 kills against Mississinewa, was even better on Wednesday, recording 30 kills despite some strong defense by the Comets.
“[Eastern] blocked her really well tonight,” Carmichael said. “And still, she got 30 kills tonight. It was awesome, and it just shows how good she is and how much we rely on her.”
Ridgeway dished out 39 assists in the victory, while Abby Shaw led the defensive effort with 18 digs.
