Just the night before, a poor first quarter doomed the Oak Hill Golden Eagles in their contest with Blackford.
Under 24 hours later on Saturday afternoon, Oak Hill dominated the opening stanza, building a double-digit lead and never looking back in a commanding 62-33 win over the Eastern Comets.
“We hit shots. Seems like a simple answer but a team that struggles to score for most of the season, yesterday I feel like we finally lived up to what we are capable of on the offensive end of the floor,” Oak Hill Head Coach Kevin Renbarger said. “I think it relaxed us on the other end of the floor as well. We were ready to play as well and it was fairly obvious Eastern had a hard time getting going and by the end of the first quarter we were out to such a good start, and they the complete opposite, we were able to never really allow them to get back in the game.”
Not only did Oak Hill score 19 points in the first frame, they shut the Comets out, building a 19-0 advantage heading into the second quarter. In fact, in the first three quarters, they gave up just 19 points total en route to their 29-point victory.
“We were able to play really good post defense, rebound and limit to one shot and not allow their guards to get into the lane,” Renbarger said.
With another big game against No. 4 Tipton on the horizon, Renbarger is hoping that his team can keep up their momentum.
“Tuesday will be a tough test against the fourth ranked team,” Renbarger said. “We have to find a way to duplicate the effort and concentration we had on both ends Saturday to even have a chance to win.”
