Boys Cross Country

Saturday, September 26

On Saturday, four of the five Grant County schools participated in the New Haven Classic, one of the biggest cross-country events of the season. In the AAA race, Oak Hill finished 11th in a loaded field with a team score of 280. Sol O’Blenis finished in 18th (16:37.5), while Jacob Winger placed 33rd (17:09.8).

In the Boys AA division race, Mississinewa placed 20th (468), while Marion came in 23rd (652). Jon Alsup posted the best time for the Indians at 18:22.1, while Jonathan Reynolds led the Giants with a time of 19:24.5.

In the Boys A division race, Eastbrook’s Thane Syswerda finished in 37th overall with a time of 18:36.4.

Tuesday, September 22

Eastbrook remained red hot to start the week, doubling up Columbia City in a 4-2 triumph. Sam Spiegal scored two more goals while Bryan Popoca and Bryce Dmyszewicz also collected a tally in the victory.

Oak Hill suffered just their first loss of the season against Northwestern, falling to the Tigers by a score of 3-1. Grant Elzinga scored the Golden Eagles lone goal.

Wednesday, September 23

On Senior Night, the Mississinewa Indians recorded their fourth straight victory, defeating the Manchester Squires by a score of 8-1. Colin Yoder scored five goals, while Holden Brown added two goals and two assists.

Saturday, September 26

In the NCC Tournament on Saturday morning, the Marion Giants recorded a fifth place finish in the conference with a 5-0 win over the Kokomo Wildkats. Alex Powell scored four goals for the Giants, while Jeremiah Watts scored one. Kyle Coryea recorded four assists in the Giants victory.

Against Tipton, Missisinewa won their fifth straight contest, defeating the Blue Devils by a score of 4-1. Colin Yoder, Mason Reel, Holden Brown, and Elliott Williams each scored a goal for the Indians.

Monday, September 28

Oak Hill bounced back on Monday with a 3-1 victory over the Pendleton Heights Arabians. Elzinga, Mark Sevier, and Dalian Leach were the goal scorers for the Golden Eagles, while Weston Seybold finished with two assists.

Boys Tennis

Tuesday, September 22

The Argylls wrapped up their conference season with 5-0 victory over Elwood, recording their 14th win in the process. Meanwhile, Marion dropped a hard-fought contest to No. 22 ranked Fort Wayne Canterbury, 3-2. Jack Fauser and Alex Spitzer collected victories at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively.

Wednesday, September 23

On Wednesday, the Mississinewa Indians put the finishing touches on their fifth straight and 13th all-time CIC championship, recording a 4-1 triumph over Frankton. John Oliver, Ethan Sample, and Hayden Rowley swept each of their respective singles matches, while the team of Riley Fuqua and Ryan Scott collected a clean sheet at No. 1 doubles.

Thursday, September 24

Against state ranked Delta, Jace Gilman picked up a victory at No. 2 singles, but the Argylls ultimately fell to the Eagles, 4-1.

Saturday, September 26

In their final tune-up before the regular season, Marion finished in second place at the Wildkat Invitational in Kokomo, defeating Twin Lake, 3-2, before falling to Peru in the championship match, 3-2.

Monday, September 28

In their final regular season matches before sectional begin, Madison-Grant and Mississinewa both came away victorious. The Argylls swept the Lapel Bulldogs, 5-0, while the Indians came away with a 3-2 triumph over Muncie Burris.

Football

Friday, September 25

Eastbrook put together a dominant performance on Friday, winning their fourth straight contest in a 71-14 rout of Alexandria. Jett Engle finished 7-for-7 for 142 yards and three touchdowns, while the Panthers finished with 370 yards on 38 carries. Alden Miller collected 80 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries, while Engle also collected two rushing touchdowns. Hayden Raikes caught two passes for 63 yards and two scores.

Mississinewa also collected 70 points on Friday, defeating the Frankton Eagles by a score of 74-8. Carson Campbell scored four touchdowns, three on the ground and one via interception, while Hayden Nelson scored twice.

The Golden Eagles collected their second straight victory, collecting nearly 300 yards of offense in a 22-12 triumph over Madison-Grant. Kyle Turanchick led the way with 114 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries, while Blake Fox recorded 53 yards on six carries. On defense, Brayden Wagner came away with two interceptions. Jack Thompson and Seth Lugar scored for the Argylls.

Girls Cross Country 

Saturday, September 26

Eastbrook, Marion, Mississinewa, and Oak Hill all competed in the ultra-competitive New Haven Classic in Fort Wayne on Saturday morning. In the A Division, Eastbrook finished third out of 17 teams with a score of 123. Olivia Howell finished in sixth place overall in a time of 21:07.1.

In the AA Division, Caryanna Aguila led the Giants (23:26.8), while Faith Bolden recorded the best finish for the Indians (25:33.3).

The Golden Eagles, fresh off their eighth straight Grant Four title, put together an impressive performance at New Haven, finishing in second out of 20 teams in the Girls AA Division. Kinzie Robey finished in eighth overall (20:27.7), while Selah Jackson came in 12th (20:49.5)

Saturday, September 26

At the East Noble Girls’ Golf Regional, Oak Hill recorded their best 18-hole score in program history, finishing with a team score of 375, good for ninth out of 18 teams. While the Golden Eagles did not advance as a team, Hope Mygrant qualified for the State Finals for the second time in the last three years, firing a 75.

Madison-Grant came in 13th place, finishing with a team score of 391. Abbie Hostetler finished with the Argylls’ top score, firing a 94.

Girls Soccer 

Tuesday, September 22

Playing on the road Tuesday, the Indians were defeated by a strong South Adams squad by a score of 10-3. Alayna Webb scored two goals, while Lia Luchetti added a goal and an assist.  

Thursday, September 24

After a week off, the Eastbrook returned to action on Thursday, shutting out the Heritage Patriots by a score of 7-0. Sarah Foulk scored four goals, while Sehdah McKim, Emmerson Chellis, and Morgan Hale each scored once.

Saturday, September 26

Playing the NCC Tournament on Saturday, Marion fell in the fifth place to Kokomo by a score of 6-0. With the loss, Marion finished sixth in the NCC.

Monday, September 28

Beginning the final week of the regular season before sectional play begins, the Marion Giants and the Oak Hill Golden Eagles were both shut out on Monday. Marion was shut out by Tipton, 6-0, at home, while Oak Hill was defeated by Hamilton Heights, 3-0.

Girls Volleyball 

Tuesday, September 22

In a battle of Grant County rivals, Madison-Grant emerged victorious with a 3-1 victory over Mississinewa (25-23, 20-25, 25-14, 25-21). Katie Garringer led the Argylls with 11 kills, while Azmae Turner collected eight. Grace Holmberg led the defensive effort with 16 digs, while Tori Hiatt orchestrated the offense with 22 assists. Lexi Baney also recorded five blocks.

Against NCC rival Muncie Central, the Giants began the week with a loss, falling to the Bearcats in three sets (20-25, 18-25, 17-25). Alyssa Lockwood led the Giants with five kills, while Aylivia Mellon and Aniyah Rogers each collected four terminations. Alaina Wesling led the defensive effort with 25 digs, while Lucia Persinger recorded 14 assists.

Wednesday, September 23

After defeating Mississinewa the evening before, Madison-Grant dropped a hard fought five-set match to the Wabash Apaches (25-16, 19-25, 25-17, 19-25, 14-16). Katie Garringer put together another stellar performance with 19 kills, while Grace Holmberg finished with 13. Daya Greene collected 15 digs, Gabby Rudy dished out 40 assists, and Emma Brummet collected eight blocks.

Marion suffered their second straight defeat, falling to the Tippecanoe Valley Vikings in four sets (25-21, 17-25, 19-25, 16-25). Aniyah Rogers finished with seven kills while Issy Leach collected six. Alaina Wesling recorded 36 digs, while Lucia Persinger dished out 22 assists.

The Indians bounced back from their loss against Madison-Grant, sweeping the Elwood Panthers in straight sets (25-21, 25-18, 25-16).

Oak Hill, playing their first match in a week, fell to the Alexandria Tigers in three (17-25, 9-25, 17-25). Alyssa Thompson finished with seven kill and 11 digs, Alivia Shaw recorded 12 assists, while Mia Edwards added 13 digs.

Thursday, September 24

After winning the first two sets, the Eastbrook Panthers were unable to close it out, falling to the Bluffton Tigers in five sets (26-24, 25-19, 20-25, 9-25, 13-15). Lexi Binkerd led the offense with 17 kills, while Kayleigh Gross finished with 11. Ava Walters finished with 25 assists and 18 digs.

Coming off their five-set loss to Wabash, the Argylls bounced back with a three-set triumph over Tri-Central (25-6, 25-18, 25-20). Azmae Turner and Katie Garringer each collected seven kills and three aces, while Gabby Rudy led the team in both assists (19) and digs (nine).

Monday, September 28

Despite a valiant effort, the Oak Hill Golden Eagles fell to the Tippecanoe Valley in three sets on Monday evening (18-25, 18-25, 13-25). Julianne Gosnell and Alyssa Thompson each finished with four kills, Alivia Shaw orchestrated the offense with 11 assists, and Mia Edwards led the defense with 23 digs. Additionally, Lori Miller and Caylee Hunt each collected four blocks.

Tuesday, September 22

Indiana Wesleyan finished the Bill Bockwitz Classic in third place, collecting a score of 899. Cameron Luczka fired a 214 – good for a second-place tie.

Monday, September 28

After the first day of the NAIA Golf National Preview, IWU finished in third out of 15 teams with a score of 300. Jacob Kydd ended the day with a tie for sixth overall (74).

The Taylor Trojans were also in action on Monday, ending the opening day of the Brickyard Invitational with a team score of 629.

Wednesday, September 23

Taylor University’s losing streak to start the season continued Wednesday, as the Trojans gave up five straight goals in a 5-1 loss to the Marian Knights. Jack McNeil scored the Trojans’ lone goal – the first of his career.

Saturday. September 26

Despite playing their best game of the season on Saturday, the Trojans remained winless, falling to the IWU Wildcats 3-2. Jonas Becari, Philipp Basara, and Lucas Melli scored the goals for IWU, while Jackson Hoosier and Brayden Murfey each scored their first collegiate goals for the Trojans.

Tuesday, September 22

In the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals, IWU made quick work of the Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars with a 7-0 sweep. The Wildcats lost just a total of 11 games.

Thursday, September 24

IWU made quick of the Huntington Foresters in the Crossroads League Tournament Semifinals, winning by a score of 4-0. The Wildcats won all three of their doubles matches.

Saturday, September 26

Against No. 2 seeded Grace, the IWU Wildcats came away with their second straight Crossroads League Tournament Championship, defeating the Lancers 4-0. Martin Carrizo, Eli Steiner, and Issac Steiner each picked up wins in singles play, while the team of Carrizo and Stefano Di Aloy were victorious at No. 1 doubles.

Tuesday, September 22

The Wildcats ended the Anil Joseph Classic in first place with a team score of 935. Kayla Esposito collected first place honors with a individual score of 228.

Women’s Soccer

Wednesday, September 23

Playing on the road Wednesday, the No. 7 ranked IWU Wildcats remained undefeated on the young season, recording a 3-0 victory over Goshen. Sydney recorded two goals for the Wildcats, while Lauren Turner collected one tally.

Against No. 2 ranked Marian, the Taylor Trojans failed to score a goal in a 4-0 loss to the Knights. The Trojans recorded just five shots after averaging nearly 19 per game in their first three contests.

In a battle of two longtime rivals, the Wildcats got the better of the Trojans, winning by a score of 2-0. Olivia Schmidt and Emily Carter both score for IWU.

Women’s Tennis

Tuesday, September 22

Indiana Wesleyan University advanced to the Crossroads League Tournament Semifinals with relative ease, defeating the University of Saint Francis Cougars 7-0.

Thursday, September 24

In convincing fashion on Tuesday, the Wildcats advanced to their 29th straight Crossroads League Tournament championship, defeating Spring Arbor 4-0. IWU was victorious in all three of their doubles matches and played to clinch.

Saturday, September 26

The IWU Wildcats kept their historic run going on Saturday, defeating the Marian Knights 4-0 to win their 29th straight Crossroads League Tournament Championship. The Wildcats have not lost to a league school since 2014.

Women’s Volleyball

Wednesday, September 23

The Taylor Trojans dropped their fifth contest on the season on Wednesday, falling to the Spring Arbor Cougars in four sets (21-25, 25-23, 22-25, 18-25). Grace Issacs recorded a season-high 18 kills and a .324 hitting percentage, while Amanda Adams collected 17 kills and 10 digs.

Thursday, September 24

The Wildcats recorded their fifth victory of the season on Thursday, defeating the Huntington Foresters in four sets (25-15, 25-18, 25-27, 25-14). Freshmen Courtney Watkins and Olivia Zawadski combined for 19 kills, 25 assists, and 10 digs in the victory.

Saturday, September 26

Playing against cross-county rival Taylor, the IWU Wildcats recorded their fourth straight victory, defeating the Trojans in straight sets (27-29, 13-25, 23-25). Ana Collar finished with 11 kills and 18 digs in the match, while Allison Sparrow also recorded 11 kills. Seabring Mak posted 43 assists, as the Wildcats recorded their second highest hitting percentage of the season at .324.

For the Trojans, Amanda Adams and Grace Issacs each finished with 11 kills, while Kacy Bragg dished out 26 assists.
