IWU gets back in win column with victory over Southeastern

Coming off two straight conference losses to Saint Francis and Spring Arbor, respectively, the IWU Wildcats bounced back in a big way on Friday evening, collecting heir third top-10 win of the season with an 84-76 triumph over No. 8 ranked Southeastern University. IWU shot 55 percent from the floor and had assists on 22 on their 32 made field goals.

With the win, IWU is now 3-0 all-time against Southeastern. The last time the school met was back on March 17, 2014, when the Wildcats defeated the Fire, 98-77, in the NAIA Division II national championship semifinals.

The Fire led by as many as eight in the first half, but a 13-4 run by the Wildcats gave them a lead they would not relinquish. IWU never trailed after halftime, leading by 11 on five separate occasions.

“Our guys dug deep tonight against a very good team,” IWU Head Coach Greg Tonagel said. “I’m proud of the effort and togetherness we sowed for 40 minutes.”

Kyle Mangas led the Wildcats with 23 points and five assists, while Evan Maxwell came away with 13 points and nine rebounds in the victory. Dylan Causwell scored 23 to lead Southeastern.
