Despite a valiant effort against their longtime conference rival, the IWU Wildcats’ Crossroads League Tournament run came to an end on Wednesday evening, as they were defeated by the University of Saint Francis Cougars in a five-set thriller (15-25, 26-24, 23-25, 25-9, 13-15).
With the win, Saint Francis clinched the second automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship.
While the Wildcats were ultimately defeated, their fourth set triumph over the Cougars was their biggest margin of victory this season. The Wildcats scored the first seven points and did not look back, finishing with 14 kills and just three errors in 32 chances.
Ana Collar led the Wildcats with 18 kills, while Marci Miller recorded 16 terminations. Kendyll Gebert dished out an incredible 56 assists, while Abigail Rutt led the defensive effort with 18 digs.
