IWU swept by Marian in final home doubleheader

In their final two home games of the season on Wednesday evening, the Wildcats struggled against No. 2 Marian, falling by scores of 8-2 and 7-2.

In the opener, the Knights recorded 10 hits, and scored seven runs between the second and third innings to grab a lead they would not relinquish. The Wildcats only mustered five hits and committed four errors.

Lauren Buckley and Miranda Wehrle each finished 2-for-3 from the plate in the first game, while Buckley also stole three bases, needing just 24 more to become the Crossroads League all-time stolen base leader.

In the second contest, the Wildcats took an early 2-0 lead after the second inning, but the Knights responded with seven straight runs, scoring twice in the fourth, once in the fifth, and four times in the sixth to secure the doubleheader sweep.

Addie Benham went 2-for-3 from the dish – the lone Wildcat to finish with multiple hits – while Megan St. Pierre and Rebecca Schrad scored IWU’s two runs.
