On Tuesday night, the Madison-Grant Argylls, with a combination of unselfish team play and aggressive defense, began their season 1-0 with a 61-28 drubbing of the Wes-Del Warriors.
The Argylls were locked in from start to finish, working together as one cohesive unit.
“We played really well as a team [tonight,]” head coach Elizabeth Garrasi said. “We were looking for each other and we came out with a lot of intensity.”
Along with that, the Argylls’ defense clamped down on Wes-Del’s offense throughout the evening, not allowing them to get into any kind of rhythm.
“We work on defense a lot in practice, and we went in with a defensive plan and the girls stuck to it,” Garrasi said. “We wanted to exploit some of their weaknesses, and our guards did a really good job of getting pressure on their ball handlers. We forced them in bad shot [as well as] turnovers.”
Danyelle Hutson led the Argylls in scoring with 27 points, while McKenna Lugar finished with 14 in the victory.
