Another game. Another incredible performance by Kyle Mangas.
Playing against his hometown team last Tuesday evening, the IWU Wildcats’ junior superstar made another big shot in a career full of them, knocking down the game-winning three in the final seconds to defeat Grace College by a score of 87-85.
IWU opened the game on a 9-0 run, grabbing the early lead, but a 13-6 surge for the home team knotted the game up at 15-15 with 14 minutes left to go in the opening half. Both teams went back-and-forth throughout the rest of the stanza, as the Lancers took a 45-44 lead into the halftime break.
The game remained tight throughout the second half, and in the waning seconds the Lancer clung to an 85-84 advantage. After Grace missed the second free throw of a one-and-one, Tanner Rubio, after collecting the rebound, pushed the ball to Mangas. After a perfect screen from Seth Maxwell, Mangas made no mistake, finding nothing but twine to give IWU their 18th win of the season and their ninth victory in a row.
Mangas finished the game with 35 points, marking the 16th time that he has scored 30 or more points in his IWU career. Maxwell collected a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Noah Smith added 11 points in the Wildcats’ victory.
