Marion posts third straight shutout in win over Eastern

The Marion Giants’ shutout streak continued on Tuesday.

After defeating Kokomo and Muncie Central by identical 6-0 scores, the Giants’ offense continued to roll in a 10-0 victory over the Eastern Comets.

Taylor Kitts finished with a hat trick, while Morgan Hartman scored twice. Claire Hendricks, Sophia Kitts, Kaylynn Scher, and Gabi Reed all tallied once in the Giants’ victory.

“This is the best game I have seen my girls play,” Coach Bre Laypoole said. “Yes, the score was 10-0, but the reason the score was 10-0 was because they played the way that [we know] we can play. We’ve been working [hard] at practice this week, and it really [showed tonight.] The effort was great, and this is the first time they have played as a complete team. It was fun to watch.”

In the last three games, the Giants have outscored their opponents 22-0, and after some bumps in the road at the beginning of the season, Laypoole is starting to see her team come into their own.

“We had some hiccups in the beginning of the season, but I feel the girls have been building and working hard [together.] I push them hard, but the girls keep going and keep taking what I give them.”
