Marion remains undefeated in dominating win over Broad Ripple

In the first six matches of the season, the Marion Giants finished with six wins, including a first place finish in the Jay County Invitational.

On Wednesday night, they achieved victory number seven.

Against Indianapolis Broad Ripple, the Giants thoroughly dominated from start to finish in a three set win over the Rockets. The game was highlighted by a 25-0 win in the third set in which setter Emily Lindsay finished with 17 ace serves.

“Our effort was fine,” head coach, Dale Gearhart, said. “We were running our offensive sets, our passes were there, and our serves were aggressive. I was happy with the way we played.”

Rashaya Kyle led the Giants with nine kills, while Lindsay finished with 19 assists. Joz’ya Johnson and Leilanu Jackson each finished with five kills, while Del’Rann Horton ended the match with 11 digs and four ace serves.

The Giants will not play again until next week when they travel to Kokomo to take on the Wildkats. In the meantime, Gearhart wants his team to continue working on what has made them successful in the early part of the season.

“Kokomo is a team that never gives up,” Gearhart said. “It will be a good fight and a good match. [I] want the girls to stay focused and continue to do what we have asked them to do – serve aggressively, make sure passes are getting to the setter so we can run our offensive sets, and make sure hitters are hitting their spots. When our girls are on the same page, we are pretty good.”
