In their first game of the sectional on Wednesday, the Mississinewa Indians came away with a big upset, defeating the Marion Giants 3-2 to advance to the sectional final.
With the win, the Indians guaranteed there would be a different sectional champion for the first time in 16 years.
The Indians rebounded after a sluggish start, and while they lost both matches in doubles play, the Indians came away with decisive victories in singles play.
Haleigh Rowley defeated Marion’s Makenzie Nelson 6-3, 6-0, while Heidi Rowley was a 6-4, 6-1 victor at No. 2 singles over Claire Hendricks.
At No. 3 singles, Tyra Stanley remained undefeated, securing the Indians’ victory with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Elizabeth Wuertley.
