Mississinewa falls to Bellmont despite tough effort

The Mississinewa Indians did everything right on Monday night.

They followed the gameplan, they ran their offense efficiently, and the defense clamped down all night.

The Bellmont Braves just hit their shots.

Despite an excellent effort, the Braves’ offense caught fire and carried them to a 77-52 victory over the Indians.

“They shot the ball well, and we shot the ball well, but they made some big shots,” head coach Omega Tandy said. “We forced to shoot from outside, but they shot unbelievably in the second quarter. They were for 11-for-14 from the field. Anytime a team is shooting like that it is tough to beat them.”

Despite the loss, Tandy couldn’t have been more pleased with her team’s effort against Bellmont.

“I was really proud of our girls and the way they executed our gameplan,” Tandy said. “The way we played was composed. We only had 14 turnovers against a very good defensive team. I was excited about our growth tonight against a team of that caliber. Even as inexperienced as they are, they stepped up to the challenge.

“That is an extremely well coached and experienced basketball that we played tonight. We have a lot of inexperience, but our girls have learned a lot after every single game, and we say things that we may have not executed well in previous games. We got the shots we wanted, they just hit huge shots, which kept them out in front.”

With Southern Wells on the docket for Tuesday, Tandy hopes that their strong play from Monday night will carry over.

“We are very excited to be playing off this momentum from tonight,” Tandy said. “The girls have their heads high, and they are proud of the effort we put out. We got beaten by a better team. We are looking forward to putting out our best effort again.”
