Coming off their most complete game effort in a win over Whitko, the Mississinewa Indians did not look as sharp in a 1-1 tie to Muncie Central on Wednesday evening.
Lack of focus from the Indians and some huge saves from Muncie Central’s goalkeeper turned out to be the biggest factors in the tie.
“We were just really sluggish,” Coach Andrea Wilson said. “We came out really sluggish and slow. We had several opportunities but we just couldn’t capitalize on them. Their goalie did a really nice job. We had a least three breakaways where she came out sliding and took the ball. Not a lot of other goalies would have, so she did a phenomenal job.”
Furthermore, the Indians had to shuffle the lineup because they were down a player, and it seemed that the shift threw them off their game as well.
“Our defense was a little off tonight because of the [lineup shuffle] and last minute changes, so they weren’t used to it and they kind of panicked a little.”
Due to homecoming events going on throughout the week, the Indians will not play again until Monday, September 11 against Tipton. With four games next week, Wilson hopes that her team will be better focused.
“When [we are at our best,] we tend to talk more and make better passes, but tonight we were just slow and sluggish – it was just one of those games,” Wilson said. “We just need to come out with a lot more effort.”
