Oak Hill beats MG for third time, advances to sectional semifinal

Despite a first set loss on Thursday night in their sectional opener, the Oak Hill Golden Eagles did not let that deter them, winning the next three sets to defeat the Madison-Grant Argylls, 3-1 (20-25, 27-25, 25-19, 25-6).

Thursday’s victory marked Oak Hill’s third over Madison-Grant this season. The Golden Eagles defeated the Argylls in four sets back on September 11, before sweeping them in the Grant Four consolation match on October 6.

“We played pretty well in the first set,” Madison-Grant head coach Robert Holloway said. “We hit some nice shots, and our passing was pretty good, especially from our back row players. In the second set, we were up 23-18, and we really just got careless from hitting errors and a couple of bad passes. They made a couple of nice plays, and we couldn’t pull it out.”

The Argylls went on to lose the third set by six points, before struggling mightily in the fourth and final set, posting just six points.

Taylor Westgate led the Golden Eagles offense with 15 kills, while Khloe Price finished with 11 and Ashlyn Transier recorded 10. Lexi Carmichael dished out 21 assists, while Brittany McCorkle came away with 23 digs and an ace in the victory.

Madison-Grant’s stats were not readily made available.
