Oak Hill routs Madison-Grant for third straight win

With Kaela Robey and Jenessa Hasty both nursing injuries, the Oak Hill Golden Eagles notched huge wins over both Northfield and Jay County.

Both players were back on Friday evening, as the Golden Eagles dominated the Madison-Grant Argylls from start to finish in a 68-9 rout.

Oak Hill was in control from the start, outscoring the Argylls 23-3 in the first quarter and a 17-2 in the second quarter to build a commanding 40-5 advantage. The Golden Eagles did not let up after halftime, allowing just four more Argyll points while scoring 28 of their own to secure their third straight victory.

Adrianna Trexler recorded her second 20-point game in as many outings, leading the Golden Eagles with 23 points on nine-of-13 shooting from the floor.

“She is playing with a lot of confidence right now,” Oak Hill Head Coach Todd Law said. “Tonight, she was the benefactor of a lot of run-out layups on her fast break. She, at times, seemed to be the one that was getting out on the break and receiving passes. She did a nice job running the floor. When she attacks the basket, she is making plays with contact, people hanging on her, that kind of stuff. When she gets offensive rebounds, she is able to go up through people now. It’s just a direct result of her commitment to the weight room this offseason.”

Andrea Wilk, who has been forced to play key minutes with all the injuries the Golden Eagles have suffered, also played a solid game, scoring 14 on seven-of-11 shooting from the floor.

“I thought she played extremely well,” Law said of Wilk. “She’s got a lot of confidence now because of the minutes she has played. She had to step up, and she has continued to do.”

As a team, the Golden Eagles shot 49 percent from the field, brought down 35 rebounds, and forced 32 turnovers. Furthermore, the Golden Eagles only turned the ball over three times, making history in the process.

“The other facet that we were really good in tonight was taking care of the ball,” Law said. “We tied a school record tonight. That record was set back in 1985-86, and we were able to tie that. To play a whole game with [just] three turnovers is excellent, so I was very pleased with that.”

McKayla Sutton led the Argylls with three points, while Gracey Fox, Zoey Barnett, and Blayklee Stitt each scored two points in the contest.
