Robinson joins 1,000 point club, but Trojans fall to Grace Christian on Silent Night

Ryan Robinson played a career game on Friday night in the 22nd-Annual Ivanhoes Silent Night, but it was not enough, as Grace Christian handed Taylor their first ever Silent Night defeat with a 73-71 triumph.

After scoring the 10th point on a free throw in last year’s contest, Jake Heggeland repeated the feat Friday evening, becoming the fourth player to score the 10th point in multiple Silent Night contests. Teammate Evan Crowe did it in 2015 and 2016, as did Casey Coons (2009-2012) and Andrew Davies (1997-1998). Heggeland’s free throw ignited a 12-0 Taylor run, which gave the Trojans a 19-14 advantage.

Taylor held a two-point lead at the break, and quickly pushed the advantage to eight three minutes into the second half. But Grace Christian battled their way back, tying the game with 6:43 remaining and eventually taking a six-point lead.

Jason Hubbard knocked down a triple and Crowe followed with a deuce to cut Grace Christian’s lead to one, but the Trojans came up empty on their final two possessions.

Robinson scored 30 points, which included eight-of-14 shooting from beyond the arc. He became the third Trojans this season to score his 1,000th career point, following Heggeland and Mason Degenkolb.

Hubbard scored 14 points for the Trojans, Degenkolb finished with 11 points, six assists, and four rebounds, and Heggeland collected six points, eight rebounds, and two blocks in the Trojans’ loss.
