On Saturday afternoon, Taylor’s offense exploded for 11 runs on 15 hits, while Matt Patton was dominant on the mound in the Trojans’ 11-1 victory over Saint Ambrose University.
The Trojans scored runs in each of the first three innings, but blew the game wide open with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, all of which came with two outs. Lawson crushed a three-run shot and Whitman followed with a two-run blast to secure the victory.
Patton (3-0) needed just 51 pitches to breeze through five efficient innings, recording seven strikeouts and allowing just two hits.
Tucker Waddups and Brenden Bube combined for a stellar four innings of work, hurling a combined 12 strikeouts while allowing just five hits.
Whitman finished with three hits, two runs scored, and two RBI, while Adkins came away with two hits and two runs scored. Lawson finished 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI in the Trojans’ victory.
