Taylor earns season-opening split with Florida Memorial College

The Taylor Trojans began the 2018 season with a split, defeating Florida Memorial College 5-0 in game one before dropping a 2-0 decision in game two.

In the first contest, Matt Patton and Andrew Kennedy combined for a one-hit gem, as the duo combined to strike out nine batters. Patton earned the victory with five strikeouts in the first four innings, while Kennedy recorded three punch-outs in the final three innings.

The Trojans scored a pair of unearned runs in the second inning and another in the fourth to build a 3-0 lead. In the sixth inning, Christian McGill’s pinch-hit single pushed the advantage to 5-0, as the Trojans recorded eight hits in the victory.

Sam Wiese finished the game with three hits and two runs scored, while Wyatt Whitman hit two singles, scored two runs, and stole two bases. Josh Lane walked and drove in one run.

In the second game, Florida Memorial turned the tables on Taylor, holding the Trojans to just one hit in the contest.

Tucker Waddups pitched well in his Taylor debut, striking out six batters over three innings, while Kole Barkhaus recorded four punch-outs in the loss.
