Taylor softball split two-game series with Asbury, UM-Dearborn

On Saturday afternoon, the Trojans went 1-1 in a two-game series, defeating Asbury University, 9-0, in six innings, before dropping a 10-2 decision to UM-Dearborn.

Against Asbury in game one, the Trojans started the scoring with three runs in the third inning. Moriarty hit an RBI single to score Kuizin, Carter drove in Moriarty with an RBI double, and Carter scored later in the inning on an error.

The Trojans increased their lead to 7-0 in the fourth inning off of three Asbury errors.

After Kuizin tripled to start the fifth inning with a triple, Moriarty crushed a 2-0 pitch over the left field to secure the run-rule victory.

Moriarty was a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate, recording five RBI and three runs scored, while Kuizin went 3-for-4 and scored three runs.

Shaw (3-0) and Ashley Roberts combined for a four-hit shutout.

In the second game of the day, the Wolverines took a 4-0 lead with a three-run home run in the second inning and an RBI single in the third.

After the Trojans cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third, the Wolverines responded with two three-run shots in the fourth and fifth innings to end the game early.

Kuizin and Kanai each finished 2-for-2 at the plate in the loss.
