Behind a pitching gem from Jessica Doctor and Darby Shaw in game one and a five-run comeback in game two, the Taylor Trojans completed their season sweep of the Bethel Pilots on Tuesday evening with 8-0 and 5-4 triumphs.
In the opener, Doctor (12-7) earned the victory, recording four strikeouts in the first three frames. Shaw pitched the final two innings, picking up two strikeouts. Neither pitcher gave up any hits in the contest.
Hannah Castor finished the game with two home runs and three RBI to lead the Trojans’ offense.
In the nightcap, Bethel grabbed an early advantage, scoring four runs in the first five innings to take a 4-0 lead.
But the Trojans came roaring back.
Kristin Mihalic started the rally in the bottom of the fifth frame with an RBI single to right field, scoring Lauren Kanai, while a Maddi Evans RBI groundout cut the Trojans’ deficit to 4-2.
In the bottom of the seventh, Kanai doubled to left field, but a Bethel error allowed her to advance to third base. Kanai scored soon after, followed by Kara Tucker, tying the game at 4-4.
Mihalic scored the walk-off run a short time later on another Bethel error, securing the win.
Evans (1-1) earned her first collegiate victory in the second contest, pitching three innings.
