Trojans emerge victorious in high-scoring home opener

Playing in the friendly confines of Winterholter Field for the first time this season, the Taylor Trojans picked up their eighth win of the young season, defeating the Olivet Nazarene University Tigers 17-14 on Tuesday afternoon.

Taylor took control of the contest in the bottom of the fourth inning, as 10 straight batters reached base. Christian McGill started the six-run half inning with a two-run shot, and Conner Crawford followed with a single to tie the game at 6-6. Nick Rusche and Crawford scored on a ONU error, and Kade Vander Molen capped off the scoring with an RBI single, giving the Trojans a 9-6 advantage they would not relinquish.

As a team, the Trojans collected six-extra base hits, 14 total hits, and a .378 batting average. Crawford finished with three hits, a pair of doubles,  and two walks, while Rusche recorded two RBI and three runs scored.

Furthermore, the Trojans scored at least one run in seven of their eight innings on offense, leading by as many as seven runs in the victory.

Tanner Kolbe launched his first home run of the season, finishing 2-for-4 with three runs scored, while TJ Bass recorded his fourth long ball.

Justin Pettit earned the victory, striking out two in 1.1 innings of relief.
