On Saturday, Taylor’s 72nd season came to a close, as they defeated Lawrence Tech 38-26 on Senior Day at Turner Stadium.
Against LTU’s suspect run defense, the Trojans recorded season highs in points (38), rushing touchdowns (four), and rushing yards (293). The 293 rushing yards marked the highest rushing total in a single game in Head Coach Ron Korfmacher’s tenure.
Quarterback Zac Saltzgaber led the way with 136 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. Caden Hilliard rushed for 83 yards, while Justin Fath collected 53. For the game, Taylor averaged over 6.8 yards per carry.
Former Eastbrook standout Zane Shilts added a 33-yard field goal and five extra-point tries in Taylor’s victory.
On defense, Mark Baker finished with a career-high 16 tackles, while Matt Wheeler added 10 tackles and Colin Schwartz posted nine, both of which were career highs.
Saltzgaber scored both of his touchdowns on Taylor’s first two possessions, and Hillard gave the Trojans a 21-0 lead with his rushing touchdown at the 10:15 mark of the second quarter.
Taylor scored three more touchdowns on each of its final three drives, before LTU scored 13 points in the final minute of the contest.
The Trojans finished the 2019 season with a 3-7 record and a 1-5 mark in MSFA Mideast League play.
