Trojans fall to Marian in CL Tournament Final

Playing Marian in the Crossroads League Tournament Championship for the third straight season on Monday evening, the No. 7 Taylor Trojans came short of their goal for a second straight title, falling to the Knights by a score of 93-75.

The Knights came out firing, scoring the first 10 points of the contest. The Trojans responded with an 11-0 run, grabbing a one-point lead in the process, but at the end of the first quarter, the Knights took a 25-21 lead.

The game remained close in the first six minutes of the second quarter, but an eight-point burst from the Knights put them up by 14. Marian carried that momentum throughout the rest of the first half, building their advantage to 50-32 at the halftime break.

The Trojans were unable to come back from their double-digit deficit in the second half, failing to muster any kind of serious rally.

Becca Buchs led the Trojans’ offense with 25 points and six made triples, giving her 126 three-pointers on the season, which adds to her single-season record. Furthermore, she notched her 60th consecutive game with at least one made three-pointer, while eclipsing the 1,400 career-point mark.

Sydney Huffman collected 15 points on 50 percent shooting, while Abby Buchs also recorded double figures with 16 points. Jamie Netzley put together a strong, all-around performance, adding five points, six rebounds, and six assists.
