On Wednesday evening, in their first double overtime contest in seven seasons, the Taylor Trojans emerged victorious in their final regular season road contest, defeating the Huntington Foresters 83-78.
Despite a slow start, the Trojans quickly righted the ship, overcoming a five-point first quarter to take a 28-27 lead at halftime. Taylor used a 13-4 run in the final five minutes of the second stanza to pull ahead.
Taylor extended their advantage in the third quarter, shooting seven-of-13 from the field. However, the Foresters came roaring back in the fourth, outscoring the Trojans 19-13 to force overtime.
In the first extra session, Taylor trailed by two points with seven seconds left, but Becca Buchs scored the biggest bucket of the contest, tying the game and forcing a second overtime period.
Abby Buchs began the second extra session with a three-point play and a field goal to put the Trojans in control the rest of the way. With the victory, the Trojans moved into sole possession of second place in the Crossroads League.
Becca Buchs led the Trojans with 24 points and nine rebounds, while Abby Buchs finished with 22 points and eight boards.
Jamie Netzley collected 14 points and two assists, while Madisyn Fischer added four points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
As a team, the Trojans knocked down 11 triples, shooting 45.8 percent from beyond the arc, while also connecting on 16 foul shots.
