After being upset by unranked Grace, the Taylor Trojans suffered their second straight loss, and their third in the last four games, on Saturday afternoon, falling to the No. 10 Saint Francis Cougars by a score of 78-64.
Despite shooting a decent 42 percent (21-of-50) from the floor, the Trojans could not slow down the Cougars’ attack. Saint Francis finished the contest shooting 55.3 percent from the field and 41.7 percent distance.
The Cougars grabbed a 22-16 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, holding their advantage the rest of the way.
The Trojans continued to battle throughout the contest, cutting the Cougars’ lead to four on multiple occasions, but they were unable to get any closer. In the final frame, Saint Francis used a 5-0 run to pull away and ultimately secure the victory.
Becca Buchs and Merideth Deckard each scored 16 points apiece to lead the Trojans’ scoring effort, while Abby Buchs came away with 14 points and four rebounds. Sydney Huffman collected 11 points, four assists, and four boards in the loss.
