The Taylor Trojans women’s basketball team is a roll.
On Saturday afternoon, the Trojans matched their longest win streak since the 2012-2013 season, winning their seventh consecutive contest in a 81-66 rout of the Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars.
Both teams played great defense in the opening quarter, as both teams shot just 31 percent from the field and scored 12 points.
Taylor’s bench played excellent basketball in the second quarter, going on an 11-5 run to grab the advantage. By halftime, nine different players had scored for the Trojans.
Abby Buchs was the key to the offense in the second half, scoring the first 12 points as the Trojans used a 16-7 surge to grab a lead they would not relinquish.
Taylor cruised in the fourth quarter, building their lead to as many as 20 points before settling for the 15-point triumph.
The Trojans’ bench scored 34 points in the contest, with Merideth Deckard leading the way with nine points. Sydney was also a solid performer, coming away with eight points and four assists. Buchs led the Trojans in both scoring (16) and rebounding (9).
