Trojans remain undefeated, Buchs scores 1,000th point in win over Huntington

In a battle of two top-25 teams on Wednesday evening at Odle Arena, the No. 5 Taylor Trojans earned their 21st victory of the season, building a double-digit lead and never relinquishing it in a 68-53 triumph over No. 21 Huntington. 

The Trojans quickly took control of the contest in the first quarter, using a 12-2 surge in a five-and-a-half minute span to take a 19-8 lead after the opening 10 minutes. The Trojans added to their advantage in the second quarter, scoring 16 points and increasing their lead to 15 at the halftime break. 

Taylor played excellent defense in the first half, holding the Foresters to just 25.7 percent shooting from the field and a woeful 10 percent from the perimeter. 

The Trojans held their double-digit lead throughout the second half, securing their 38th straight regular season and their 28th consecutive Crossroads League victory. 

For the game, Taylor shot 48.8 percent from the floor (21-of-43) and 47.8 percent (11-of-23) from the perimeter. 

Becca Buchs recorded a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Abby Buchs scored her 1,000th career point, becoming the 26th player in program history to reach the milestone. She finished the contest with 18 points, a team-four assists, two steals, and one block. Haley Stratman added 11 points and three triples.
