Trojans rout Grace with strong offensive performance

Behind 17 hits and a seven-run fourth inning, the Taylor Trojans defeated Crossroads League foe Grace College on Thursday evening by a score of 15-5. The game ended after the seventh inning due to the mercy rule.

Every player in Taylor’s lineup recorded at least one hit, and as a whole, the team batted .486. Five Trojans recorded multiple hits, while three came away with multiple RBI.

After the Lancers took a 3-0 lead after the first inning, the Trojans tied the game up in the bottom of the second frame.  Jonathan Foster hit an RBI single, while Josh Lane followed with an RBI double.

Grace took the lead back briefly in the top half of the fourth inning, but the Trojans were again able to find the equalizer. Taylor blew the game wide open the following frame, as eight consecutive Trojans successfully reached base, recording three singles, three walks, a double, and a triple.

Taylor added insurance runs in each of the final three innings to secure the victory.

Brett Lawson recorded four hits, four RBI, and four runs scored in the contest while reaching base in all five of his at-bats. Lane finished 3-for-5 with three RBI.

Clay Riggins earned the win, striking out four over three innings of solid relief.
