Trojans rout Madonna for third win of season, 20th straight regular season triumph

On Wednesday evening, the No. 15 Taylor Trojans collected their third win of the young season, using a dominant second half effort to defeat the Madonna University Crusaders 97-57.

With the victory, Taylor increased their regular season winning streak to 20 games.

The two teams got off to hot starts early, combing for 18 points in the opening three minutes. Taylor went 4-for-5, while Madonna opened the contest 4-for-7 from the field. After that, both defenses found their footing, as the Trojans took a 18-14 lead after the first quarter of play.

Taylor started to pull away in the second stanza, using a 11-1 run to take a 13-point lead and eventually building a 14-point cushion at halftime.

The Trojans dominated the last two quarters of play, scoring 53 points on 68.8 percent shooting, which included a 75 percent mark from beyond the arc in third. For the game, Taylor shot 50 percent from beyond the perimeter, recording a total of 18 triples – two shy of the program record.

Becca Buchs led Taylor with 27 points, collecting eight made three-pointers, which matched her career-high. Buchs also finished with 13 rebounds, collecting her third double-double in as many games.

Merideth Deckard scored 14 points, while Sydney Huffman recorded a career-high eight assists. Jamie Netzley, in her first game of the season, finished with seven rebounds and seven assists.
