On Saturday at Mount Vernon Nazarene, a career-best performance from Jamie Netzley helped the Taylor Trojans record their 25th victory of the season with an 81-65 triumph over the Cougars.
The Trojans put together an efficient offensive performance, knocking down 50 percent of their attempts (28-of-56) from the floor and 44 percent (12-of-27) from beyond the arc.
The two teams went back and forth in an opening stanza that featured four lead changes and two ties. Merideth Deckard capped off the first quarter with a pair of threes, giving the Trojans a seven-point advantage.
The Trojans were able to build their advantage in the early stages of the second half, but the Cougars used a 13-0 rally to take the lead back. However, despite not scoring for four minutes, the Trojans answered with a 10-2 run of their own to take a 38-33 lead at the halftime break.
Netzley took over the game in the third quarter, scoring 11 straight points to help give Taylor a lead they would not relinquish.
Netzley scored a career-high 25 points to go along with four assists and four rebounds, while Deckard collected a career-high 23 points on a perfect seven-of-seven shooting.
Abby Buchs finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season, while, Becca Buchs added 11 points and 10 boards for her ninth double-double.
