Trojans’ win streak snapped in loss to Huntington

The Taylor Trojans’ two-game win streak came to a half last Tuesday evening, as the Huntington Foresters shot well from beyond the arc and held off a late TU surge to come away with an 89-83 win.

After holding No. 6 Marian and No. 23 Spring Arbor to a combined 38.5 percent shooting in their previous two contests, the Trojans had no such luck against the Foresters, as HU shot 52.4 percent for the game, which included a scorching 53.9 mark from the perimeter.

Thanks to their strong shooting, the Foresters built an early 14-4 advantage on their way to a 13-point lead at the halftime break. Huntington kept it pouring it on in the second half, opening a 74-54 lead with just under seven minutes left in the contest.

With their backs against the wall, the Trojans responded, using a 25-10 run to cut the Foresters’ lead to just five points with 1:37 left in the contest. However, Taylor would not get any closer and Huntington held on for the victory.

Ryan Robinson led the Trojans yet again, scoring a season-high 25 points to go along with five rebounds, five assists, and two steals. The junior has scored 20 or more points in seven of Taylor’s 11 games this season.

Mason Degenkolb came away with 18 points, James McCloud collected 10, and Jason Hubbard, CJ Penha, and Jake Heggeland each added eight in the Trojans’ loss.
