Whitman’s three-run double lifts Taylor over Manchester

Playing against NCAA Division III Manchester University on Tuesday afternoon, the Taylor Trojans emerged victorious, using a three-run third frame to defeat the Spartans, 4-3.

After the Spartans grabbed an early lead with a run in the second inning, the Trojans used a pair of walks and a single to load the bases for centerfielder Wyatt Whitman. The senior swung at the first pitch he saw, roping one to the left-center gap and scoring all three Taylor baserunners.

The Trojans added one insurance run in the following inning, as Josh Lane scored pinch runner Kyle Kelsheimer with an RBI double.

Luke Carlson started the game, allowing just one run through three innings, while Carter Stump earned the win in relief, pitching 1.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Tucker Waddups picked up his first career save, pitching the final three innings.
