After defeating a top-25 ranked Grace team earlier in the week, the IWU Wildcats picked up their second straight win over a ranked team on Saturday evening, shutting No. 15 Marian by a score of 2-0.
“This team continues to display a selfless fight and a mentality of support for each other,” IWU Head Coach Daniel Seiffert said. “We are really pleased with the mindset that they display match in and match out. More importantly, it was really awesome to honor our seniors today, and all they have done to establish and foster the culture of this team.”
The Wildcats scored both of their goals in the first half, with the first coming in the first eight minutes off the foot of red-hot Lexis Garcia, who now has five goals in her last five games. Kenzie Millar scored her third goal of the season in the 24th minute off an assist from Hannah Severs.
Marian outshot the Wildcats 20-10, including a 8-7 advantage in shots on frame, but Sam Castaneda was up to the task, making eight saves to secure the shutout.
IWU now sits in first place in the Crossroads League, one game over No. 16 Grace and No. 19 Spring Arbor.
