Wildcats split contests with Calumet, Briar Cliff

On Friday afternoon, the IWU Wildcats earned a split on the fourth day of their Florida Spring Break trip, defeating Calumet College of Saint Joseph 9-6 before falling to Briar Cliff 5-1.

In the first game, Calumet grabbed an early 1-0 advantage in the top of the first, but the Wildcats answered with two runs in the bottom half of the frame on an RBI single from Addie Benham and a sacrifice fly from Sydney Lowe.

IWU added three more runs in the second and third innings, including a two-run single from Maddy Margraf, before tacking on four more runs in the fourth to put the game away.

Mady McMillan earned the win, striking out seven in a complete game effort.

IWU’s offensive success against Calumet did not carry over into their contest with Briar Cliff. IWU scored just one run on three hits, while committing four costly errors. The Wildcats’ lone run came in the second inning, as Lowe scored on a Margraf walk.
